One axolotl needs at least 20 gallons. Bigger tank means cleaner water. For two axolotls, use 30+ gallons. The calculator uses your tank size to tell how often to change water.
Many owners change too little or too much. With a good filter, 20-30% every 3 days works for a standard 20 gallon. But your setup may be different โ that's why you need a custom schedule.
Sponge filters are gentle but not strong for heavy waste. HOB is a good all-around choice. Canister filters work for big tanks. The tool tells if your filter is strong enough.
Leftover food turns into ammonia. Enter how many grams you feed. If waste load shows 'high', cut down a little.
โ "Why is my tank always dirty?"
Mostly because your water change schedule doesn't match your filter and feeding. The calculator above gives you exact days so you stop chasing smell.
โ "How much water to change for axolotl?"
For a 20 gallon, one axolotl, and a HOB filter, try 25% every 3 days. But use the calculator with your own numbers to be sure.
